I know Valentine's Day is traditionally a day to celebrate your love for your significant other, but there's nothing wrong with showing a little love to the ladies in your life. Since it is only two days away and there may not be time to shop or wait for something to ship, how about a homemade sugar scrub? I made and gifted these for the ladies in my life for Christmas and they were a hit. All you need is:
-1 cup plain granulated sugar
-1/4 cup coconut oil
-peppermint essential oil (or whatever scent you wish)
-red food coloring (or whatever color you wish)
-mason jar or container with lid
(this made about 3, 4 oz. mason jars)
Pour your sugar into a large bowl. Melt down the coconut oil by placing it in the microwave until it's fully liquified. (I found it easier to work with this way) Mix the sugar and coconut oil together until you reached you're desired consistency. You may add more coconut oil if you don't find this consistency to your liking. Add a few drops of essential oil and mix again. Transfer half of the sugar into a different bowl, set one bowl aside. Place just a couple drops of food coloring into one bowl and mix until you've reached the desired color. Remember a little goes a long way with food coloring, you can always add more, but can't take any out once it's added. Now alternate layers of white sugar and colored sugar into container. Add your personal touches & embellishments to create a unique gift. I ordered my personalized stickers from zazzle.com. I kept the sugar scrub I had left and have used it myself. It leaves my hand very soft and the I love the moisture my skin gets from the coconut oil, and the peppermint smell is perfect for winter. I can't wait to create a spring/summer time batch. Enjoy!
