Last year, I discovered an iPhone app called Poshmark. For anyone not familiar, Poshmark is an app that allows users to buy & sell gently used clothing & accessories from eachother. Users are able to create a virtual "closet" to display what they would like to sell. The app allows you to upload 4 photos, describe & price your item. However, Poshmark takes 20% of everything sold through them. And there is a $6.99 flat shipping fee on anything under $25.00, $4,99 for anything over. In order to purchase an item, you must input a credit card into your profile. I've never had a problem with them having my credit card information, it is safe. Once you've purchased an item from a fellow "Posher" they have 10 days to ship your item. Though, from my experience, most Poshers are quick to ship out items the next day or two. Poshmark holds your payment until you receive the item. Once you look over your item and are able to look it over to make sure it is, in fact, what was described in the photo, you "accept" the item through the app and they release the funds to the seller.
I've both purchased and sold through Poshmark and my experience has been mostly good. Among the cons I've found that some sellers will overprice their items to account for the 20% Posh keeps from their profit. Also, as with anything, there are scammers out there who will try to get you to pay through PayPal or to trade them items, and will never send you your items. Posh strongly discourages both, since they can not guarantee any outside sales or trades not made through their app. I've done both, but made sure to look at the sellers feedback before doing so. Anytime, I've traded, I've done so knowing that there was a chance, I may never get what I was trading for. I've been able to establish some trusted "Posh-relationships" so I try to trade with people I know are reputiable. I've used my best judgement and have been able to avoid any big issues. To avoid ANY issues altogether though, I recommend just buying through the app. I know when I first joined Posh, it was strictly an iPhone/iPad app, but I do believe that it's available on Droid now.
On the selling side, I've been able to make a few bucks off those items that I only used once, or the impulse buys that I never made it around to wearing. It's a great way to clean out your actual closet to make room for new things :) I am planning a move into a new home within the next month, so I will be doing a major closet cleaning and will be adding to my Posh Closet, so take a look, there may be something you could use!
